Running Back Responsibilities

Tagged routes are extensions to pass plays that provide the F Back with additional responsibilities or remove hiss pass protection role. The QB will use these as check down options after looking down field.

Arrow tagged to Boston, Cleveland or Browns
Run off the outside hip of the nearest Tackle & engage with the edge defender if they attack the gap. If beaten proceed with the route allowing the QB a check down option. If unopposed at the line, break to the outside quickly for the short pass.

Arrow tagged to New England or Patriots
Block the A gap as usual, if unengaged proceed with the route no deeper than two yards from the line of scrimmage.

Swing tagged on all pass protections
Ignore pass protection rules and immediately proceed to the nearest side line – arching your run to create a more suitable angle for the QB to release the ball and hit you in stride.

Jet tagged to Boston, Cleveland or Browns
Run off the outside hip of the nearest Tackle & head straight down field. This is a speed route. Make sure you favour the hash marks on the side you run so that the pass can be put down the middle of the field in front of you
