It is with great excitement that the Sussex Thunder announce that Tom Wort has today been named, and accepted the role of Honorary Team President for the Sussex Thunder. Once global travel is allowed, we aim to work with Tom on several football Camps and we are looking forward to having Tom back in the Thunder Family for years to come. This is a great opportunity for Tom to build future links with Britball whilst continuing on the ‘Wort family’ tradition of being part of Sussex football history dating back to the 1980’s.

New Honorary Team President Tom Wort grew up with his family in Crawley. He was introduced to American Football from a young age as his father, Brian Wort and Uncle, John Wort, who both played for the Crawley Raiders.

After moving to the states in 2006, Tom began playing football very quickly after starting his freshman year at high school. He has a natural knack for the sport and credits not taking the sport for granted and playing hard every snap as a key factor in his success.

Tom’s late start to the game didn’t slow him down at all. After finishing high school, he continued his journey to the University of Oklahoma, one of the most prestigious college football programs in the country.

Tom played for the Oklahoma Sooners from 2009 to 2013 at the middle linebacker position. After many impressive displays during his time at college, including All-Big 12 Honourable mention in 2011, Tom was invited to the 2013 NFL combine and was subsequently picked up by the Tennessee Titans as a free agent.

After retiring from the NFL and football, Tom coached college football at Texas State University as a defensive graduate assistant with the linebackers.

Tom now lives back in Oklahoma where he runs a number of successful camps to develop athletes for the college and professional level. These camps will be coming to the UK later in 2021 and 2022.
